Beacon Lighting at The St Hilary Downs - Monday 4th June 10.15pm
Coun. Nicola Thomas, Mayor of Cowbridge, has organised for an official beacon to be lit to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. The beacon has been officially registered with the Pageant Master and will appear on the official Queen Diamond Jubilee website. It will be identified and entered into the book to be given to HM The Queen after the event.
‘We have been given a light up time for 10.15pm on the dot (all community councils all over the country light up at that time). We are hoping to attract people from Aberthin, Ystradowen, St. Hilary, Llantrithyd, and Cowbridge, with gathering points and a ‘park and ride’ to the Roman Road to be confirmed.’
8.45pm – Cowbridge gathering point is the car park behind the Town Hall, calling into the Edmondes Arms. Anyone wishing to drive up will need to approach in vehicles from the Loch Fyne Restaurant entrance onto the Roman road. Parking near the beacon will be restricted for health and safety reasons and to maintain access road for emergency vehicles.
Please bring a torch/lantern and a piece of wood for the fire. No fireworks.
Can you help with the following?
- Marshalling on the night.
- Leaflet distribution by those involved in local group activities and attending street parties – available from the Town Hall shortly.
- Timber/pallets - contact Nicola Thomas on 01446 772630
- Loan of hi-vis jackets.
We would be grateful for any volunteers to help clear up the site the following day 5th June between 10am and 12-00pm.
